A CELEBRATION OF JUNE
Thursday June 25th 2015
12:30 - 1:30 Sarah Haigh-soprano
Robert Forbes-tenor Annabel Molyneaux-mezzo Peter Cowdrey-piano Paul Molyneaux-poetry |
June's Lunchtime Recital was a celebration of June, my mother, who died in January. She was the first person every audience member met when they arrived at the recitals, greeting people and selling programmes. Her other main role was to put a tick by her favourite items on the programme. This was a recital of mum's favourites, ranging from The Letter Duet from the Marriage of Figaro - via early 20th century English Song, passionate romantic opera arias, and Schumann's tempestuous row between lovers - to Gilbert and Sullivan, accompanied by poems by Betjeman, my mother's father, and by her! Mum was completely larger than life and unforgettable.

AN EASTER JOURNEYThursday April 9th 2015
12:30 - 1:30pm Becki Reed-soprano
Annabel Molyneaux-mezzo Peter Cowdrey-piano Paul Molyneaux-poetry |
A musical journey through both the story of Christ - birth, crucifixion, resurrection, and a flower’s year in a garden – buds, summer and fading, along with some resident birdlife. Becki (soprano) and Annabel (mezzo) perform music written by composers ranging in time from Pergolesi through to Britten, in English, German, French and Latin. Ecstasy through to despair and back again, via inconsequentiality and humour.
